How a PC Is Born in My Garage: My Build Process
You don't need to be a hardware expert — that's what I'm here for. Here's how I approach every build from the initial conversation to the final handover.
Every PC that leaves the Garage has a story. It's not a production-line product — it's a project that starts with a conversation and ends with a stress test. Here's how it works, step by step.
Phase 1 — The Initial Conversation
Before touching a single component, I talk to the person who'll be using it. Questions I always ask:
- ▸What is the PC for? (gaming, work, both, video rendering, coding…)
- ▸What's the maximum budget — and is there flexibility if spending €50 more on a key component makes sense?
- ▸Do you have any components to reuse? (monitor, keyboard, old SSD with data on it)
- ▸Case preferences: compact, silent, glass side panel?
- ▸Long-term goal: do you want to be able to upgrade in 2–3 years?
Only after this conversation do we talk about specific components.
Phase 2 — The Configuration
I put together a parts list with current market prices, explaining every choice. I never use old stock — I check prices the day of the order.
I also show you the trade-offs: "If we spend €30 more on RAM and €30 less on the CPU, we gain longevity" — that kind of reasoning. You understand the choices, not just receive a list.
Phase 3 — The Order
Components are ordered only after you approve the configuration. I generally use Italian distributors with real return and warranty policies, not third-party marketplaces with unpredictable wait times. Average delivery is 1–3 business days.
Phase 4 — The Build
On build day I work with meticulous care. Every connector is verified. Cable management is handled not just for aesthetics but for airflow — cables behind the back panel, nothing blocking a fan.
Note on thermal paste: I never apply it randomly. The amount, distribution, and technique (dot, cross, line) vary depending on the processor die surface. I always use certified paste — Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut for the highest-performance CPUs.
Phase 5 — The Stress Test
Before handing over any PC, I run a full validation:
- ▸BIOS boot — verify all components are recognized
- ▸OS installation (Windows 11 or Linux on request)
- ▸Updated drivers, clean system, zero bloatware
- ▸CPU and GPU stress test with temperature monitoring (30–60 minutes)
- ▸Benchmark comparison to verify expected performance
- ▸Check for coil whine, unusual noises, and video artifacts
If anything is off during testing, it gets resolved before handover — not after.
After Delivery
I don't disappear after the sale. If in the first months you have questions, issues, or want to add something, I'm here. The PCs that leave the Garage are mine even after you take them home — in the sense that I stand behind them.
