Inside the console: what really happens
PS5: liquid metal and dry spots
Sony cools the PS5 APU with liquid metal, a gallium alloy that conducts heat far better than any paste. The catch: it's a fluid. Thermal cycles make it migrate and oxidise, leaving parts of the chip uncovered — a dry spot. Temperatures climb, the fan screams, the console shuts down.
My fix: full teardown, oxide removal with dedicated solvents, chip and heatsink cleaned to a mirror finish, surrounding components shielded, fresh liquid metal applied. One stray drop is a short circuit — this is not a job for a can of air and a screwdriver.

PS5 and Xbox Series: HDMI port
The weakest mechanical point. I first find out whether it's the connector or the HDMI controller chip (Panasonic MN864739 on PS5), then replace it with a hot-air/infrared station.
PS4: fossilised paste and pump-out
The PS4 uses regular paste and silicone pads. After years of heavy gaming the paste dries like chalk and pump-out pushes it off the chip: fan at 100%, jet-engine noise, shutdowns. Full teardown, chemical cleaning, high-conductivity paste and new pads. I also repair internal PSUs, Blu-ray drives and DualShock 4 stick drift.

PS3: a piece of history, not scrap
Many shops won't touch them anymore. I will: deep cleaning, IHS delid on Fat models, NEC/TOKIN capacitors linked to YLoD, PSUs, Blu-ray lenses, HDMI/AV outputs, motherboard micro-soldering.

Dust isn't just dust
It's fibres, skin and humidity that heat «bakes» into a felt between the heatsink fins. The fan spins, the air doesn't pass. A can of air through the vents won't fix it: the heatsink must come out and be cleaned fin by fin.
